Canyoning
One of the aquatic gems of Alicante, in the Guadalest Valley
Right in the centre of the Guadalest Valley, along the bed of the river that gives it its name, we find this magnificent gorge, with abundant flow almost all year round, which will delight those initiated in this interesting sporting discipline.
The gorge runs along the head of the reservoir of the same name, crossing the term of the village of L’Abdet. It can be considered a small natural wonder, since in the province of Alicante (quite dry, especially in its southern half) it is a luxury to have a river that carries water all year round, creating a privileged ecosystem, away from urban pressures and in the middle of the highest mountains of the province.
It is a gift of nature, one of the aquatic gems of Alicante, and as such we must take care of it, leaving the smallest possible footprint in this magnificent place.
Access
From the village of L’Abdet, we walk north, where we take an ascending asphalted track that leads us through almond fields and various terraces, until after about 10 minutes we cross the river.
Description of the route
We descend along the riverbed, negotiating the various drops with abseils or throwing ourselves into the pools of adequate depth. A house on the right bank marks the halfway point. At the end of the difficulties, the river widens and is no longer enclosed, where we must look for the exit on the right. Time: 2 hours.
Return
At the end of the route, we look for a steep path on the right, by which we reach a small esplanade, from which a track leads us back to L’Abdet in 10 minutes.
